Conference-IEEE International Symposium on Visual Analytics and Technology
Place: Columbus, OH
Begin Date: 19 October 2008
End Date: 24 October 2008
Description: IEEE VAST, founded in 2006, is the first international symposium dedicated to advances in Visual Analytics Science and Technology. The scope of the symposium, co-located with the annual IEEE Visualization Conference and the IEEE Infformation Visualization Conference, includes both fundamental research contributions within visual analytics as well as applications of visual analytics, including applications in science, security and investigative analysis, engineering, medicine, health, media, business, and social interaction.
Visual Analytics is the science of analytical reasoning supported by highly interactive visual interfaces. People use visual analytics tools and techniques in all aspects of science, engineering, business, and government to synthesize information into knowledge; derive insight from massive, dynamic, and often conflicting data; detect the expected and discover the unexpected; provide timely, defensible, and understandable assessments; and communicate assessments effectively for action. The issues stimulating this body of research provide a grand challenge in science: turning information overload into the opportunity of the decade.
Address: Conference Chairs: Thomas Ertl, University of Stuttgart David Ebert, Purdue University

Via Colori in Columbus – A Street Painting Festival
This event is even more unique because these artists, both amateur and professional, donate their time to support the work of Children’s Hospital.
If you have never seen street painting, you’re in for a real treat! They make the streets come alive with their art and talent. Visions of beautiful things that look so real, you wouldn’t know it wasn’t!
The featured artist is Hani Hara from Columbus. He is an active volunteer in the art community. His work is widely exhibited throughout Central Ohio. He serves as a board member at the Ohio Art League. He has worked with many children and introduced arts to them through a program called “Short Roy.”
As in the days of the Renaissance where paintings of religious icons were painted at cathedrals, this is a modern day practice of that in the form of street painting.
Don’t miss this two day event, which is free, that helps raise awareness and funds for Children’s Hospital.
You’ll find gourmet food, children’s activities, entertainment and a Saturday Night Street party.
