During the past year many exceptional works of art have been given to, or purchased by, the Speed. For the first time the museum will unveil all of these new treasures at once in a single exhibition. Featured will be works of art that span 600 years of human creativity and represent a diverse array of artistic techniques and styles. From medieval manuscripts and Old Master paintings to Modern European and Contemporary art, the works in this show are enchanting with their technical virtuosity and exceptional beauty. Each of these acquisitions represents an act of generosity on the part of supporters here in Louisville and across the country. Admission is free.

The 2008 Conference will be August 17-23, 2008 in Louisville, Kentucky, USA

Education is one of the IAI’s primary missions. The IAI strives to be the main professional association for those engaged in forensic identification, investigation, and scientific examination of physical evidence. The Annual IAI International Educational Conference is not only sponsored by the IAI, it is organized solely by the parent body of the IAI in partnership with the local IAI division. The local IAI hosting division along with the IAI Conference Planner, the IAI Educational Planner, the IAI Forensic Subcommittees, IAI members, and many staff volunteers plan and coordinate the conference program well in advance of 3 years from the actual date of the Conference.

At this important annual Conference world-renowned professionals present the most current scientific educational sessions, utilizing the most efficient methodologies and technical products and advances in the identification field. The Conference offers general sessions, poster presentations, hands-on workshops, field trips, and vendor exhibits. Every forensic discipline subcommittee offers some type of training. Levels of the educational sessions range from basic to advanced.

Original Highlands Neighborhood Arts and Music Festival

The Original Highlands Arts and Music Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2008 on Baxter Avenue. We should have something that appeals to everyone, with live bands, lots of artists & vendors, and the bars will have their doors open for lots of beer. There will be a children’s section, the Fleur di Lis Garden Club will be hosting a walking Garden Tour through the neighborhood, and in general it will be a party throughout the neighborhood. This year we are fortunate to be part of the Ryder Cup Experience, so we are expecting even more people to show up than in the past. Artists and Vendors will be scheduled from 11 a.m till 7:30p.m., but are welcome to stay till 11 p.m. Bands will take the stage at 1p.m. and go till 11 p.m. The Baxter Avenue corridor businesses will be open all day, and most of the night. This year some of our proceeds will be going to Gilda’s Club and GuardiaCare of Louisville, two of Louisville’s fabulous non-profit organizations.
