Regardless of the weather on June 20, there?ll be plenty of sun to shine on a new crop of artwork soon to grace the downtown corridor. Thirteen pieces interpreting the theme ?City of Sunshine? (an historical tag line for the city during its first half-century) will be formally announced at the 10th Anniversary Art on the Streets opening reception June 20. To download a walking tour map please visit www.downtown80903.com

Star Juror Adam Lerner (Executive Director of The Laboratory of Art and Ideas at Belmar in Lakewood, CO, www.belmarlab.org) will announce all of the selections and the top three winners of the $30,000 prize pool. Also to be announced is a commissioned 14th piece, ?38, 104 Helios? by Montana artist Patrick Zentz, which will be permanently exhibited at the northeast corner of Cascade and Kiowa streets. Selections for this year?s Art on the Streets exhibit have been created by artists from Colorado, Wisconsin and California.

Since the program?s inception, 15 pieces of artwork valued at nearly $220,000 have been purchased for permanent display downtown. More than 100 artists have presented 164 works of art during the first ten years of Art on the Streets. All of the artwork in each annual exhibit is for sale.

Art on the Streets is a yearlong outdoor art exhibit founded by US Bank, supported by Nor?wood Development and GE Johnson, and facilitated by the Downtown Partnership affiliate group, Community Ventures. Nearly 100 additional patrons also contribute to the annual exhibit. AOTS aspires to harness the power of art to energize a space, enhance its quality of life, facilitate curiosity and conversation, and influence economic growth.

One of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum most popular exhibits returns for the 23rd season this fall. The Annual Quilts and Fine Woodworking Exhibition is always a stunner with a striking combination of contemporary quilts and woodworking created by regional artists. Each year this juried exhibition draws thousands of area residents, many of whom view the show several times. From August 30 through November 1, 2008 the gallery will be awash in color as traditionally pieced quilts mix with others incorporating digital manipulation and hand beading. The quilts are exhibited along side one-of-a-kind woodwork creations that combine such woods as walnut, bubinga, cherry or ash, to name just a few.
There will be free “white glove tours” of the quilts (a favorite for quilters) in the exhibit from 10:00 a.m. to noon each Saturday the exhibit is open. No reservations are necessary.

Tickets: Free
Dates: August 30-November 1, 2008
Venue: Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum
