Cleveland National Airshow
Cleveland, Ohio, USA
August 31 – September 02, 2008
Description:
Come to the Burke Lakefront Airport for three days of flying festivities. There are flight simulators, static aircraft, educational displays, aviation souvenirs and more.
The Cleveland National Air Show has a volunteer Board of Trustees comprised of approximately 40 business and civic leaders who contribute their time, energies and acumen to present the best Air Show possible to the Greater Cleveland area. Reaching east to Erie, PA; south to Columbus, OH; and west to Toledo, OH the Cleveland National Air Show is one of Northern Ohio’s largest regional events. The show celebrates not only Cleveland’s role as “Host to the Golden Age of Aviation” during the 1929-1949 National Air Races but also Ohio’s role as the “Birthplace of Aviation” more astronauts (21 at last count) have come from Ohio than any other State in the Union including John Glenn and Neil Armstrong. Ohio is also home to Orville and Wilbur Wright who painstakingly researched, invented, developed and perfected manned powered flight in Dayton, Ohio. Each year dozen’s of non-profit and charitable organizations conduct substantial fund-raising by operating concession stands and providing manpower in ticket booths, parking lots and other duties. Through it’s supporting Foundation, the Cleveland National Air Show annually maintains the Marjorie Rosenbaum Aviation Plaza — a striking tribute to exhibition aviation at Burke Lakefront Airport, and awards scholarships to Cleveland-area youths with financial needs pursuing aviation or aerspace degrees.
